Stuck in Tokyo 1

Description

Terrence was ecstatic. He had been accepted for a presitigous job at Onagi Corporation in Tokyo, Japan and was scheduled to start as soon as he could make the flight over. It was his big break, and a perfect way to get out of his run down little town and see the world. Three days after he got his acceptance letter in the mail, he said goobye to his family and what few friends he had and was on his way to Japan. The fact that he didn't speak a word of Japanese didn't bother him. He had been assured that people in Japan learned English and that after being immersed in the culture for a few months, he would start picking up their language with ease. He was too busy thinking about this grand adventure to worry.

It started at the hotel, where somehow all of his items were lost. His bags, his wallet, his passport, his phone. He was stuck in a foreign country with no way to get home and now way to call for help and nobody in this country even spoke English. What the hell was he supposed to do? He could think of only one thing. He started walking. The Onagi Corporation would help him sort this all out.

Things only got more confused there. He couldn't understand, but they led him into a nice, big room that looked like some sort of salon. He supposed he could wait here while they sorted everything out. The chairs were comfy and the music was nice and relaxing, so he didn't mind. They were so nice. He knew they'd help him. Smiling and happy things were getting sorted out, he let the music guide him swiftly into a deep sleep.

He awoke with no idea where he was. A Japanese woman was standing over him and smiling. "Excuse me? You are the one who came for help?" she asked.

Dumbly, Terrence nodded. "We found help. Good placement."

He was so confused, he had no idea what this woman was talking about. Was it a language barrier? He stumbled along behind her down a long hallway. He couldn't figure out why he was having such a hard time walking. It must have been the sleep that he couldn't seem to shake off. In the next room was an older Japanese man who smiled warmly. Terrence couldn't help but smile back. The old man had such a friendly face.

"So you are the new help," he said.

"What? Wait..." Did he hear that right? It must be the language barrier. "Yes, please. Can you help? All of my stuff got stolen."

The old man smiled and nodded. "Yes. Help. Here is...stuff." He handed Terrence a pink and yellow bag with Japanese writing all over it. Eagerly, he sifted through the bag to find his stuff. There was a pink women's wallet, a phone with a pink Hello Kitty case and a makeup bag. Terrence looked confused. "This isn't mine."

The old man smiled and nodded. "Yes. Yours. We help, yes? Very good, thank you."

"No, no, no. Please. I think there's been a misunderstanding."

The old man frowned and pressed a button on his desk. A younger Japanese man came into the room, well dressed, intimidating even in his confidence. "There is no misunderstanding," he said in perfect English. "You were supposed to start working here today, yes? With no identification, we were forced to figure out who you were after you passed out, but only one person was on our list. A Miss Gina Andrews. You were the only person who showed up."

"Okay yes, but clearly I'm not Gina Andrews. My name is-"

"Gina Andrews. I know. It's on the ID in your wallet. Unless you have some other form of ID...?"

"Of course not. I-"

"Yes, of course not. You are Gina Andrews, Mister Onagi's new secretary from America. You will perform all the duties expected of a secretary or you will be fired immediately. Is that understood, Miss Andrews?"

Terrence was so confused. His brain was very sluggish. Curse falling asleep in that nice room! He'd have to figure out a way out of here, but he needed his stuff. He was worried he was never going to be allowed to leave Japan. He couldn't think straight right now so he just nodded his assent.

"What was that, Miss Andrews? Secretaries in this facility always refer to their superiors as sir."

"Um, yes, sir."

The young man smiled. "Good. Sukiyama here will get you sorted into your desk."

Terrence was led to a desk just outside of Mister Onagi's office. The name tag on the desk read 'Gina'. There was a computer and a plant on the desk. Sukiyama acquainted Terrence with all of the drawers and what they held. Terrence was supposed to wear a headset and answer the phones through the computer. He was told to make himself at home while Sukiyama prepared the rest of the tour. He took the first opportunity to look in the small mirror in the top drawer and gasped at the blonde woman staring back at him. His facial features had always been soft, but with a feminine hair cut and a smart business suit, he passed for a cute girl. This was bad, very bad. How was he going to get out of here if he didn't even speak Japanese?
